The Rational Radical

Classroom snippets, mathematical musings, school activities, and personal grumblings.

  • With a Pinch of Salt: At this short session, Exeter instructor Philip Mallinson worked as the ideal math instructor. He provided these card stock shapes and just told us to pour salt on them. We did that and he barely offered any insight until about 25 minutes later. We did quite a lot of work in that time though. The insights he provided after that (which were really just more well-placed questions followed by mind explosions) really floored the room. Boy, I could tell you some things about salt piling on shapes.
